Even though we are quite a bit into the month of March, there is never a bad time to find good or new music. As a big music enthusiast, I’m always on the hunt for new music, and I’m always looking for a variety of different styles of music that anyone can have a conversation about - not just one genre like hip-hop or Top 40. So, without further ado, here my recommendations of new music that I’ve been loving so far.

  • Healthy - PRETTYMUCH

If you haven’t heard about this group before, you should go right now. These five guys are bringing back the R&B flavor but still have those notes and vocals that match with the modern music now. The song talks about that feeling when you’re so infatuated with someone that it’s unhealthy for you - and you can’t seem to get them out of your head no matter what you do. I think it’s safe to say that many of us have been in that situation, and I’m glad there’s a song that tells me I’m not crazy.

  • Lost in Japan - Shawn Mendes

This guy released two new songs out of nowhere, and while “In My Blood” is a hit, this song is not to be ignored. If you’re a fan of Justin Timberlake or his song, “Take Back the Night”, you will really love this song. “Lost in Japan” is different from the typical pop sound that we associate, but this new vibe works so perfectly. If this is just a taste of what to expect for his album (which is dropping at any point at time), I can’t wait to see how the full album comes out.

  • Done for Me - Charlie Puth feat. Kehlani

The funky piano and beat that goes into this song is one that just makes you want to get up and have a dance party with your friends. This collaboration between these artists is one that works so perfectly for this song that I want more from these two! Kehlani is a forced to be reckoned with, and playing with her voice on this song with Charlie’s soulful voice makes you want to find a partner and jam out. The song, which is a lover’s quarrel at a party, makes you think of that one time you got into a fight at a party and you will let those feelings out.

  • El Préstamo - Maluma

If you’re into latin music, you will definitely love this song. This is Maluma’s latest single and it’s one that doesn’t disappoint by any means. This brings out the reggaeton vibes that get you prepared for all the music you’ll be needing on your playlist in the summer, and you’ll have a great time turning up the volume in the car driving down the expressway as this tune rolls on. “Yo no lo di, yo lo presté.”

  • No Return - Jake Miller

This song just makes me feel some kind of way, and I think it will do the same for you. If you want a song that just makes you feel sexy and confident about yourself with the music of it, then this is that song that needs to be played. This song is about taking that extra step with that person, and it’s one that must be played on that romantic date night when the mood is just right. I love listening to this on repeat, and something about Jake Miller’s voice is just perfect in this little bit of melodic perfection. Trust me, you’ll thank me when you listen to it.

  • I Like Me Better - LAUV

This song is that EDM song that I just can’t seem to get enough of right now. Even though this wasn’t released this month, it’s one of those songs that just works at any time for you. If you blast it, it works; if you play it softly for background noise, it works for that, too. You can never go wrong with a song like that, and the cheeky lyrics just make it a good song to listen to, especially when you’re thinking about that other person.

  • I Could Use a Love Song - Maren Morris

Now, I’ll admit, I don’t listen to country music very often. If I’m being honest, it’s very rare if I listen to country music ever, really. But there’s something about this catchy tune that just makes me want to put a smile on my face and be happy. Maren Morris has such an incredible talent, and for all of my country lovers out there, I thought she deserved some recognition. If you’ve ever wanted a song that just gave you a little bit of hope for love again and wanted to relate when you’re feeling low (whether a breakup or no date), this one is for you. And no, you’re not alone.

  • Ex-Factor (The Four Performance) - Candice Boyd

This is that one revenge song that I’ve been OBSESSED with lately, and the vocals in this version slay me in every way, shape and form. While I give praise to the iconic Lauryn Hill for her chops, Candice Boyd singing this song just touches me in my soul and I can’t help but feel everything that she does. To that one that’s done you wrong - whether an ex, a former friend or enemy - this one is for them. Tell them how you feel! They will play with you no more.

  • Something’s Gotta Give - Camila Cabello

This is that song that gets you into your feelings - and if you want a song that relates to you about getting out of a relationship and just saying “enough is enough”, this is the one for you. It’s such a strong ballad that just hits you in your core - you might shed a tear or two. This song has been like my karaoke song that I just can’t help but belt out when it gets to that last chorus.

  • Love - Keyshia Cole

Ah, how I love this throwback song that I cannot get enough of. I haven’t listened to this song in quite a bit of time, but it finds it way to creep back and pack a punch. The song about finding that love and then losing it is one of those that hits your core, yet you can’t help but let it take you over. If you’re one for big and powerful that are built up, then this song that’s an R&B classic is perfect for you. Keshia plays no games.
